Club helps girls build self-confidence: Mini Mermaid Running Club encourges girls to listen to their 'inner mermaid'.
Ten of the 18 girls in the San Carlos school spent six weeks training for the 5K, or 3.1-mile, run in June. Not only did the girls work out after school, but they also went over curriculum aimed at motivating and empowering the girls. (more at the SM Daily Journal)

Cancer diagnoses in 2001 and 2008 didn’t get Heidi Boynton down. In fact, it got her up and running. Business Digest, March 7, 2014: Heidi Boynton to address chamber luncheon / SANTA CRUZ
Heidi Boynton, co-founder of Mini Mermaid Running Club and Finding Sophia and founder of Team Mermaid, will address the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce Women in Business luncheon, which meets 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cocoanut Grove, 400 Beach St.
A Santa Cruz resident, married and mother of two sons, Boynton pushed forward despite a cancer diagnosis in 2001 and another in 2008. She has competed in 25 triathlons, multiple marathons and iron man distance triathlons, and is passionate about self-esteem for girls and young women. Her remarks begin at noon. Are you looking for a challenge? Our wonderful city has its own half and full distance marathon race for runners who want to really test their bodies and minds. The Morgan Hill Marathon (including a half marathon) is now in its fifth year and will be held Sunday, Nov. 2. Runners come from across America to participate in our annual marathon.
